Florida Lotto Overview

Florida Lotto has a minimum jackpot of $1 million and tickets are just $2. There's no rollover cap in place, so jackpots regularly roll over to generate top prizes worth tens of millions of dollars. Players are required to match six numbers from a possible 53 in order to win the jackpot and there are an additional four prize tiers for players who match fewer numbers.

A random multiplier is also printed on every ticket. Anyone who matches between three and five numbers will see their prize boosted by two, three, four, five or ten times, depending on what multiplier is shown on their ticket.

Florida Lotto players also have the option to add features to their game for an extra charge. Anyone who enters the Double Play game for an extra $1 per play will also have their numbers put into a separate draw for the chance to win up to $250,000.

Another option is EZmatch for $1 more per play, with instant prizes up to $500 available if any of the six EZmatch numbers randomly printed on the ticket match up to the Florida Lotto numbers you picked.

Biggest Florida Lotto Jackpot

Jackpot iconJackpot: $106.5 Million

Calendar iconDate: September 15, 1990

Winner iconLocation: New Port Richey

The biggest Florida Lotto jackpot was won 12 years after the lottery’s launch. The jackpot was equally shared among five ticket holders. However, the highest jackpot won by a single ticket holder was worth $81.6 and it was won on March 29, 2000.

Florida Lotto History

The Florida Lotto was first introduced in January 1988 with a six from 49 matrix and draws being held every Saturday. Initially, jackpots could be claimed only as an annuity option but in the second half of 1998 the cash option was introduced, allowing jackpot winners to claim their prizes as a single lump-sum payment.

In October 1999, Florida Lotto underwent some major format changes, which included increasing the matrix to six from 53 and adding a Wednesday draw. To date, the Florida Lotto follows this format.

In October 2009, Florida Lotto With XTRA began, offering players the chance to multiply their non-jackpot cash winnings or win a free lottery ticket for matching two numbers. XTRA was a side game to the Lotto, which players could opt into for a small additional stake.

Since January 2018, Florida Lotto players have also been able to add EZmatch to their ticket for the chance to win up to $500 instantly.

A number of changes were made in October 2020, with XTRA replaced by a random multiplier printed on every ticket. An additional prize level was introduced to reward players who matched two numbers, while the Double Play game was launched to give ticket holders another chance to win alongside the main draw if they opted in for an additional fee. The price of a standard ticket increased from $1 to $2.
