- Drawings take place at 6:17 PM CT, with the cut-off time for ticket sales just a few minutes earlier at 6:10 PM CT. Tickets cost $1 and are available from all Minnesota Lottery retailers.
- You have to pick five numbers from 1 to 31, and must match them all to win the jackpot. The grand prize starts at $25,000 and keeps rising until it is won. It does not usually grow for too long, with a win every week on average.
- While the jackpot is shared between players if there are multiple players who match all the numbers, the rest of the prizes are all fixed amounts. Payouts start at $1 for matching two numbers, and increase in value for matching more.

North 5 History
Northstar Cash was launched on October 7, 2003, and its format has remained exactly the same ever since. The name of the game has changed, though, after it was rebranded to North 5 in May 2022. The biggest win in history has been worth $236,073 and came on November 26, 2012.
How to Claim a Prize
If you win a prize in North 5, your options for claiming it depend on the value of your win. However, you must always come forward within one year of the draw taking place.
Up to $599
You can take your ticket to any Minnesota Lottery retailer if you win a prize of up to $599. If they do not have the cash to hand to pay you out, you may need to go to a different retailer or arrange to come back at a later date. You may prefer to claim by mail if your prize is at the higher end of this range. Send your ticket to the following address, and make sure to use registered mail:

$600 to $50,000
If you win a North 5 jackpot, you'll need to complete a claim form. You can mail in your claim, or claim in person by visiting one of the Minnesota Lottery's regional offices. These are located in Virginia, Detroit Lakes, Owatonna and Marshall, while there's also the headquarters in Roseville.
Over $50,000
If the North 5 jackpot is worth more than $50,000, you will have to visit the head office in Roseville to claim your prize. The office is normally open from 8 AM to 4:30 PM, but it is recommended that winners call to make an appointment.
